Exchange games

Some of the original casino games such as Blackjack (21 or Pontoon), Roulette, and Poker have been successfully transferred into the digital age with varying versions of the games available on many betting exchanges. Now the exchanges have an advantage over the traditional bookmakers in that you can place lay bets as well as back bets, and although the main advantage of this is with sports betting it can also be applied to certain exchange games in certain circumstances.

Let us have a look at some of the more popular games available on a betting exchange.

The game selection available at Betfair

Blackjack

Most people have played the actual card game at some time in their life or have had some spare time to have a go at this online. So most people know the basic rules and that the way to win is to have a hand totalling 21 or as near to as possible without going over. Betfair has made the game more interesting because in addition to the usual version of one player against the dealer situation in the casino, they have in addition a unique spin on the idea in the exchange games section. In this version there are four automated players set against the automated dealer and as a player you can bet on any of these as the game unfolds.
All the automated play is using the so-called perfect strategy for up to seven rounds. The next play for each contender and the dealer is based on keeping track of cards already shown compared to those yet to appear and the derived probabilities. The automated play pattern seems random enough, having studied it for a long period of time, and there are some less obvious ways to win using one of the exotic bets such as: “the dealer wins or ties all”.
For example, if you wait for the four players cards to be shown in the first two rounds of play, plus the first card for the dealer then you can judge the probability of the dealer winning the round or at least tying. If there is at least one out of the four players with a strong hand then, by laying the option mentioned you are in a strong position. Now, should the next dealers card be disadvantageous to the bank then the odds for the aforementioned exotic bet will rise and it is often possible to back your original selection for a smaller stake and achieve a no lose situation. In general when playing it is best to choose to play a round only when the cards favour you and just sit it out when they do not.

Roulette

Roulette has long been popular with gamblers because it seems so easy to win, and the online casinos have exploited this to the full. There are different versions available to play on exchanges, both in the casino and games sections. There also many systems out there that claim to make you money from roulette but, as far as I have determined some may push the odds in your favour but none are foolproof.

A common myth that is called into play by some systems is that of counting how many times a certain result happens and then betting for a different outcome at a certain point. You might think that if red comes up repeatedly over seven spins then the time there is a high probability of black coming in. However this is not so mathematically. The chance of red or black coming up is 50/50 each time no matter what the previous history was. I personally have seen one colour come up repeatedly over eight times! If you were using increasing stakes on this type of bet you might well find you soon reach the table limit before you finally get the result you are looking for and so will lose money.

Other systems can help you cover maybe two thirds of the table with your stakes, so giving you a one in three chance of winning. One system claims to cover 80% of the table by the following method:

  • With this system you choose your stake, say £1 and then place £6 in the box covering numbers 1-12, then £6 in the box covering numbers 13-24, and then just £2 on each of any six numbers in the high section with numbers 25-36. Now with any of the low or middle numbers appearing you will more or less break even, but with a high number you win back six times your stake, and then you should quit.
  • A simpler version is to just put £2 on both the middle numbers and the high ones, and then once you win you simply stop and play a different roulette game on a different online website. This way you can win small amounts on a regular basis perhaps, but the important thing is to take a profit and stop because the longer you play the more chance you have of losing money

Other exchange games

There is a bewildering array of games on offer on a big exchange. These include Derby Racing, Hi Lo, Hold’em, Bullseye roulette, plus a whole host of others which are like variations on the slot machines. These have exotic names like Diamond Mine, Bianconeri Wild, Football Star, Footy Fever, and Leprechaun, amongst others!

If you have a home computer and internet connection you never have to feel bored since there is always the diversion of exchange games available. Just be careful not to lose too much money!
